Two Major Changes from Legacy 2016
The major change is in the way the IA will be assessed using 4 Criteria:
a. Research Design (6), Analysis (6), Conclusion (6), Evaluation (6). (/24)
2. No longer 12 page limit. Rather, 3500 word limit.
My Reflection and Thoughts:
Separating conclusion and evaluation into a category of their own serves to emphasize the importance of interpreting the results, trends, and forming a conclusion separate from the evaluation portion which will serve to address methodology issues. I think this is a good change and will serve to improve student output in addressing the scientific method overall. It will be important to emphasize to students the importance of comparison of their results with published literature thoroughly.
This I am not sure how it will turn out ... reason: with page limit removed doe this mean we might receive some IAs that contain 20 pages ... but still fall within the word limit? How easy will it be to count the words? How much room will there be for interpretation teacher to teacher, school to school. Here, I personally preferred the 12 page limit in the legacy curriculum. Thoughts welcome ...!
